Junior Academy
Area 15a are hoping to develop a Junior Academy programme. It is hoped to bring together competitive Juniors and develop their skills with instruction from Accredited Coaches. This approach is aimed at focusing the Area on Juniors, and retaining them, whilst also recruiting new members through proposed work with the Pony Clubs. The Academy approach is very much geared to ongoing development rather than one-off training sessions.
As a junior BSJA member, you are the future of our sport. For this reason, within Area 15a, we have decided to create a Junior Academy, specifically focused on offering our junior members access to world-class coaching from BSJA accredited coaches. The Academy aims to provide progressive coaching rather than one off training sessions, using experienced BSJA Accredited Coaches to significantly improve the riding skills and horse knowledge of the junior membership in order to make them more competitive in the
sport of show jumping. Our aim is to help you develop your skills through an enjoyable, informative and progressive coaching system where you will be able to share experiences, and learn with and from your peers.
Whilst many train very regularly, often this is in isolation, and, therefore, the competitiveness and peer pressure which often makes us try harder is missing.
The group environment of being coached and watching others being coached (doing and seeing) is invaluable.
A rider remains as a Junior Academy member until the December after their 18th birthday – whether riding ponies or horses.
The Academy also aims to create an environment where non-horsey parents feel comfortable to ask for advice and feel included in what is sometimes thought of as an elite sport. Help with rules, classes, qualifiers etc
Members of the Junior Academy are given a Log Book, which allows them to keep a record of their training and achievements. The log books contain information on ponies ridden by each individual, their aims and objectives and records of training goals and competition successes, also the riders Personal Development Plan
